In 2008 the Cody family opened Constant Companion Pet Crematory after their cat Ziggy passed away and they took her to Knoxville to have her cremated. Robbie was so impressed with the service and how much it meant to them that he felt he could serve families in Cleveland who were going through the same grief of losing a beloved pet.

It was not long until the people who were being served by the pet crematory began suggesting to the Cody’s that they should consider beginning to serve families as the care and support they received for their pets was something they desired for their loved ones as well.

In 2011 the Cody’s opened Companion Funeral & Cremation Service and have been serving family with funerals, burials, and cremation options ever since. Today Companion has locations in Cleveland, Athens, and Chattanooga and are serving thousands of families every year with that same great service and care that got them into the business.

In 2021 a similar conversation began when families in Cleveland began suggestion that Cleveland needed an affordable, well maintained cemetery and, with the growing popularity of cremation, wanted somewhere they could place their loved ones remains that was a designated final resting place for their loved ones.

In 2022 the Cody’s were able to secure a large track of land on the boarder of Cleveland and Charleston just down the road from where Highway 11 crosses the Hiwassee River and the dream of Hiwassee Memorial Gardens was born.

In July of 2023 the Cody’s were able to open the gates to Hiwassee Memorial Gardens and begin serving family with an affordable, well maintained cemetery that carries that same great service and care both Companion and Constant Companion have been known for.
